A Unique work and one of the earliest in this field. About the Author: Abu Muhammad Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Hatim Muhammad b. Idris al-Razi al-Hanzali, born in al-Rayy (near modern Teheran) in the year 240/854 and died in the same city in the year 327/938, was wellknown under the name Ibn Abi Hatim. As a Traditionist (Muhaddith) he stands out in the late 3rd and early 4th century, being th most greatest Hadith-critic after the illustrious generation of the compilers of the Sihah al-Sittah. Before having learnt Hadith from his older generation across the vast Muslimlands, he took up elementary learning from al-Fadl b. Shadhan al-Razi (d.260/873) and Ibn Wara (d.270/884) in the city Rayy. As the son of the famous Traditionist Abu Hatim al-Razi (d.277/890), it's no surprise that he learnt early a lot of Hadith from his father, and his father's friend and companion, equally famous, Abu Zur'ah al-Razi. These two persons would make the greatest influence on Ibn Abi Hatim, at least in his scholarly career.
